The partnership between Martina Calvo and Claudia Fernandez becomes the fifth different pair to win a tournament in 2026; Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, meanwhile, defeated Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan to claim their eighth title of the season, leaving their rivals on six.
WOMEN The women’s final at Olympia London featured different champions from those who triumphed a week earlier in Pretoria. While Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo came close to winning their first title in South Africa, they secured it in England at the expense of Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, who had also won in Malaga. The match ended 7-5 6-3 in 1 hour and 45 minutes, with the number 4 seeds taking an early lead (first 3-0, then 4-1), before the number 1 seeds fought their way back, only to lose serve again just before the tiebreak. In the second set, Claudia and Martina raced to a 5-0 lead; Delfi and Gemma closed the gap to 3-5, but were unable to complete the comeback. “I have fulfilled a dream”, said Calvo. “I have watched so many finals on television and always wondered what it would feel like to play one. Now I hope to play and win many more.” “I am delighted”, added Fernandez, who had already won six titles in 2024 with Gemma Triay and six more in 2025 with Bea Gonzalez. “Things did not go our way in Pretoria, but fortunately this time we managed to change the ending. MEN While the women’s final was decided in two sets, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia needed three to beat Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan 6-3 5-7 7-5. In the first set, two breaks put the number 1 seeds in control, but they conceded the only break of the match in the eleventh game of the second set, allowing the ‘Chingalan’ to take the match into a decider. Just when the tiebreak seemed set to be the natural conclusion, however, Coello and Tapia produced the decisive push to claim their eighth title, following their victories in Riyadh, Cancun, Rome, Valencia, Valladolid, Bordeaux and Malaga. “We played very well in the first set”, admitted Coello. “The same happened in the second, but Fede and Ale raised their level. The only way to win was to remain focused, as we did, and celebrate another title and dedicate it to everyone who has supported us”. “We are living through incredible years. Perhaps we have experienced even better ones than this, but we have grown a lot”, explained Tapia. “The important thing is to continue having the desire to fight and win”.
